The MG TD is a classic open top British sports car.
This example is in exceptional condition and was a Class Winner in 2017 at the Harewood House Classic Car Show. It also won the Reliability Trophy on an MG tour of the Scottish Borders last year.
It was originally exported new to the USA along with the majority of MG TDs at the time.
It was repatriated back to the UK by California Connection in 2013 and bought by a retired motor engineer who has restored a number of MG TDs to a high standard during his retirement.
He removed the body and stripped it back to the chassis which was found to be in excellent condition with no signs of welding and only required cleaning and repainting
He then rebuilt it from the ground up, converting it to Right Hand Drive and fitting a new wiring loom.
The engine was overhauled and a Ford Five Speed Type 9 gearbox fitted.
The body was repainted, the brightwork was rechromed and the interior fully refurbished with new green leather and new carpets.
A full set of new tyres and new roof and full weather equipment were fitted and the mileometer reset to zero.
It was then registered by the engineer at the DVLA in June 2014 and the car put back onto the road.
In March 2015 it was bought by a gentleman in the North East who unfortunately found within three months that classic motoring was not for him. He advertised it and it was bought by a gentleman enthusiast from York in July 2015.
This enthusiast has had a number of classic cars over the years and he proceeded to elevate the car to the exceptional standard we see today.
In the first year of his ownership from 2015 to 2016 he spent over £3500 on parts which took 118 hours of his unpaid labour to fit.
This work included a re-cored radiator, fully restored carburettors, converting to -ve earth, fitting a Dynalite alternator at a cost of £600, fitting a new cockpit heater for comfort and fitting seat belts to make the car safer on todays roads.
Although the car is MOT exempt as it was manufactured prior to 1960, it has an MOT which runs until September 2018.
The car will be licensed for twelve months from the date of sale for the new owner at no cost as the car qualifies for the Historic Taxation class.
The history file contains the V5, a copy of a previous V5 showing the UK ownership history, the current MOT, the previous MOT history, the last owners report when he examined the car before purchase, detailed list of work completed and parts purchased over the last two years, photos of shows attended and tours driven, some rally plates and invoices for parts purchased by the last owner.
Classic open top sports motoring and likely to be an excellent investment.
