1974 MG Midget RWA - Blaze Orange, Drive Away! SOLD

Sold by RMC Classics
More pics here: - details above

These early 70s Round Wheelarch Midgets are really beginning to become desirable. This Blaze example is no exception and would prove to be an excellent investment for the future, and offers much opportunity for improvement to add further to its value. This car is a GAN-5 chassis number example, and has been in the hands of a caring long-term owner that has kept on top of maintenance and has covered little mileage during his ownership.

The car comes with an MOT until June 2018 (no advisories), and is ready to drive away. The MOT history is very clean and shows the car has been used sparingly. The 1275cc engine starts, runs and drives very well indeed. The engine ticks over nicely and pulls very strongly. K&N air filters and an LCB Manifold have been fitted to make the engine breathe better, and it shows! In recent times, the car has had a new alternator, and a full service and tune-up. The gearbox is nice and strong with no synchromesh issues, and it doesn’t jump out of gear. The diff doesn’t whine, either! The car rides well for a Midget without the usual knocks, bangs and whines. The original Rostyle wheels are in excellent condition, having been refurbished, and the tyres have recently been replaced all round (Toyo).

Bodily, the car is nice and presentable, and the panel gaps are all pretty good. The car is painted in its original ‘Blaze’ colour and looks great. It’s quite a long time (probably 20 years) since the car was painted so there are some areas of minor microblistering etc when looking at the car closely. However there is no hidden rot that I can spot everywhere. It’s perfectly usable and isn’t going to deteriorate overnight but it’s not a concourse show car – please don’t expect perfection. Chromework is good but there is some pitting as they are the originals – nothing unsightly, though.

Structurally, the car appears to be very solid indeed – the floors, sills and spring hangers all look good. I can’t see there being any welding issues for a good few years to come. The car hasn’t been undersealed to death, so is not hiding any horrors! There are no obvious nasty patches of ‘MOT’ welding, and the floors are nice and straight.

The interior is very tidy, with seats, door cards and carpets in very good order. The seats were recovered and had new foams around 5 years ago, and new door cards were fitted at the same time. The dashboard is painted in the correct crinkle type finish, and is in really excellent order. The hood has been replaced in recent times and it nice and taught, and the rear windows are clear.

All in all, this is a great opportunity for someone who wants a well-sorted car that can be used regularly without any worries. It’s not the usual tarted-up piece of junk – the work which has been carried out appears to have been done to a good standard. There is a box folder full of paperwork relating to the car, covering the past 10 years or so.
