1958 Jaguar 3.4 Mk1 Saloon RHD For Sale

Well, what a great opportunity we have here for the discerning Jaguar collector to acquire a gorgeous factory 3. 4 litre RHD mk1 Jaguar, highly revered and less common than the 2. 4 litre car sharing the same name and body style.

The car only became known as the mk1 after the mk2 was released, initially just called the Jaguar 3. 4 Saloon when released in 1957, 18 months after the 2. 4s release.

At the time of release, the 3. 4 saloon caused rather a sensation, monopolising a market that had otherwise been saturated with rather staid looking (and performing for that matter!) compact saloons.

With all that performance, the car broke the mould again, being fitted with 4 wheel disc brakes, so not only can this Mk1 show a clean pair of heels to many a much younger car, it can also dig it's heels in like one can too (so to speak!).

With a 120mph+ top speed and 9 second 0-60 performance the mk1 was also made famous on the race circuits in period, and still gets much credit for their handling and performance, especially when seen raced at events such as the Goodwood Revival - quite a spectacle!

Anyhow, onto our car specifically. This car was a UK market car, manufactured on the 27th November 1958 and supplied thorugh Henlys of London, to the interestingly named Mr. D. C. Zucker. Despite the sweet tooth his name may suggest, he had the car supplied in a rather understated Cornish grey paintwork, with dark blue hides inside. The registration number was VYR 853.

We purchased the car on a trip to New Zealand in February of last year, and the car has obviously since been subject of extensive restorative works, including a full respray and interior retrim. The car now wears a beautiful colour, quite similar to the Rosso Alfa colour which is popular on our SS100s, the sort of red that looks striking and smart rather than one destined for an emergency services vehicle.

The body chaps did a lovely job, and the panel gaps are narrow and consistent, with all doors opening and closing with little effort - even better than a Golf I might suggest.

the interior presents very well in tan leather and matching carpeting. The wood trim also appears to have been refinished and the gauges restored, but there is precious little information regarding the doubtless large expense and time spent on this car while in the company of the Kiwis.

On the road, the car is a great performer, and fantastically comfortable to drive, with all the performance one could wish for, I have visions of the new owner loading up this truly practical classic with family and luggage for a jaunt to the South of France, now that winter is fast upon us.

Viewing available via appointment to our Woodbridge showroom and workshop.

When people think about a fifties Jaguar, they often look at the XK’s but it were the small saloons that were vital to Jaguar. In fact, if the 3.4 and 2.4 litre ‘Mark 1’ cars had not been introduced, there may well have been no E-type, XJ6 and certainly not the Mark 2 years later. For us, the 3.4 litre (later refered ...
