In 1984, TWR began to apply what they had learned in the ETCC to the road going version of the XJ-S. Ever the shrewd businessman, Walkinshaw capitalised on the enormous amount of exposure his company was getting by creating his own tuned road car version of the XJ-S, built and developed under the 'TWR Sport' banner. These modifications were carried out to production cars at great expense and the end result was a sharper, faster and more focused version of the XJ-S.
By 1988 Jaguar decided to bring the XJR-S in-house. Well, sort of in-house: TWR still modified the cars and they were still to TWR's spec but now they were being sold as 'JaguarSport' products - this was a 50:50 venture between Jaguar and TWR.
And the 5.3-litre XJR-S here is believed to be one of the early batch of cars from the then newly formed JaguarSport.
First Japan registration on the 01/10/89.
Then it was imported and cleared through customs in Germany and imported in Italy in 2011.
