1953 Jaguar XK120 DHC For Sale

The Jaguar XK120 was a car that caused a sensation in the motoring world when the first prototype car was shown in 1948 at the London Motor Show where it wooed the crowd. As a result, Jaguar made the decision to put the car into full production rather than build the original 200 units Jaguar had been planning.
This Jaguar XK120 is one of the most original cars available with matching engine, gearbox and body, all confirmed with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate . The car has just been subject to a full restoration.
The history of this example begins with its date of manufacture, documented as the 17th June 1953, being dispatched a few days later to Jaguars famous dealer in New York named Max Hoffman.
No early details of the first years of ownership are recorded, until Mr Patrick Hart of Ohio in 1990, thought to be only the second owner, with a car appraisal and letters to the insurance company all part of a wealth of recorded history on file confirming the car would only be used in dry weather and that the car was in excellent condition at the time of appraisal.
In 1998, the car returned to the UK, bought by a Mr Ashton living in Staffordshire, where again the car was meticulously cared for, with a wealth of history confirming the care and attention this car received. It was only after Mr Ashton died that his widow reluctantly sold the car and under new ownership the car was detailed for refurbishment.
During this refurbishment, the engine and gearbox were removed, the clutch was renewed, all new engine seals were fitted as was a new exhaust. A full body re-spray followed, alongside refurbished chrome. . All the clocks and gauges were removed and serviced and a new leather interior was fitted to enhance the appearance. The car has had the dynamo serviced and all new tyres. The car however retains its originality all the way to the steel wheels, leaving the car exactly the same in colour and specification as the day it left the factory all the way back in 1953.

From a mechanical standpoint, the engine starts without hesitation, even when cold, with a strong tick-over and lovely throaty sound. Out on the open road, the 3. 4L power plant pulls strongly, responding promptly to throttle inputs. The four-speed original Moss gearbox shifts from gear to gear with no issue and providing a smooth gear change. The brakes and steering have all benefitted from servicing and replaced parts as required.
In summary, this Jaguar XK120 DHC, the most sought after of the XK variants, is a lovely example that has been privileged with a series of dedicated owners over the years and retains all of its originality, whilst having just been refurbished to an extremely high standard, allowing the new owner to have years of trouble free motoring whilst owning an appreciating asset.

Built towards the end of 1992, this was one of the last of the 'straight six' models ever built (production ceased in November 1992 I believe). The car was first registered in May 1993 and had 3 registered keepers (although apparently only one owner) prior to my buying the vehicle in November 1996 when the recorded mileage ...

Jaguar: it is more than just a car you buy, it is a sign of respect you own. Regarding the Jaguar XK150, the successor to both the XK120 and the XK140, the type name referred to the car's top speed in miles per hour. Although the XK150 fell just short of that speed, at the time it was one of the fastest production cars ...
