1966 Fia mk1 ford gt40 with le mans 66 race history For Sale

Gt40p/1042 (1001) is a historic 1966 mk 1 gt40, having been reincarnated over a 10 years period by marque specialists, using all original/nos parts; Including 90% replacement of the period-original monocoque, original race-tuned 289 cubic inch v8, period zf-0 transaxle and original bodywork from the essex wire (no. 60) gt40 entry for the 1966 24 hours of le mans. originally shipped 3/30/65, there exist two build sheets for the car, as it was actually "completed" twice. For its first incarnation, it was built as a lookalike for shelby american team cars, being painted "dark blue, guardsman" (according to the car's build sheet) with white stripes. The build sheet indicates "dummy" for engine and transmission and gearbox and "none" for clutch”. it was apparently shipped as a non-running display car. Shipped to ford dearborn, and was displayed at the '65 new york auto show and world's fair exhibition. after th. Fair and show, it was returned to f.a.v. And rebuilt as a race car, with a 6/12/66 delivery date. It had a fuel cross over system, hydraulic reservoir inspection panel, l.h. Front fenders at the root of the windshield for the race. purchased by bernard white (hull, eng) 8/66, a second updated note on the build sheet (done in a different type than original) states "29/9/66 at this date, property of bernard white racing, acacia house, walkinton, beverly, yorkshire," the car was painted white with a wide green stripe, eventually ending up in south africa for the springbok series (where an orange recognition light was mounted atop the nose near the right headlight): 8/29/66 brands hatch (#109 - rees - dnf); 9/11/66 zeltweg (#2 - lanes ireland - 10th); 11/5/66 kyalarni (david hobbs/mike spence - dnf); 11/19/66 killarney (#3 - hobbs/hailwood - dnf); 12/4/66 kumalo (event 2: hobbs - 1st, event 4 hailwood - 1st); 12/17/66 lourenco marques (#6 - hobbs - 2nd); 12/27/66 pietermaritzburg (#3 - hobbs/hailwood - 1st); 1/2/67 kyalami (hobbs - dnf). purchased by sid taylor (walsall, eng) 2/67, 1001 at that time was still painted white and green and racing continued: 3/24/67 snetterton (#51 - dennis hulme - 2nd); 3/27/67 silverstone (#1 - hulme - 1st); 4/29/67 snetterton (#28 - hulme - 2nd); 5/20/67 silverstone (#43 - gardner - dnf); 5/29/67 crystal palace (#41 - gardner - 4th). purchased by charles lucas (london, eng) 6/67, it was repainted dark blue with a red centre-stripe edged in white. 6/10/67 oulton park (#149 - lucas - dnf); 7/15/67 silverstone (#41 - lucas - dnf); 7/30/67 brands hatch (#51 - lucas/pike - dnf); 8/13/67 croft (#30 - lucas - dns); 8/20/67 zeltweg (#1 dennis hulme/charles lucas - dnf); 8/28/67 brands hatch (#55 - lucas - dnf). purchased by john wolfe (hampstead, london, eng) 11/67 thru frank williams, it was next sold (without being raced by wolfe) to andy cox (eng) early '68 and repainted yellow (later with two thin red stripes): 4/25/68 monza (raeburn/schenken - dnf); 5/12/68 zandvoort (raeburn); 5/19/68 nurburgring (#74 - granville-smith/ raeburn - 20th); 5/26/68 spa (#41 - raeburn/schenken – (dnf)); 6/8/68 silverstone (cox - 4th); 6/9/68 brands hatch (sgt: Cox - 8th; Libre - 5th); 6115/68 silverstone (sgt: #125 - cox - 2nd; Libre: 1st); 6/16/68 snetterton (sgt: #190 - cox - dns; Libre: Dnf); 6/29/68 silverstone (sgt: Cox 1st; Libre: 3rd), 7/7/68 vila real (raeburn - 10th); 7/21/68 hockenheim (raeburn - 11th); 7/28/68 snetterton (#103 - cox - 3rd); 8/25/68 brands hatch (#100 - cox - 8th); 9/2/68 snetterton (sgt: #133 cox - dns; Libre: Dns); 9/14168 crystal palace (#81 - cox - 6th); 9/21/68 silverstone (cox - 3rd); 9/28/68 oulton park (#59 cox - 3rd); 9/29/68 thruxton (#167 - cox - 4th). purchased by ian williams (malaya garage, billingshurst, sussex, eng) thru ian williams 1/69, it was raced occasionally: 5/17/69 silver-stone (#14 - daghorn - 10th); 5/26/69 oulton park (daghorn - 12th); 7/12/69 croft (#7 - williams - 13th); 8/10/69 thruxton (#9 - daghorn - 7th). purchased by terry smith (tunbridge wells, eng) in '70, the car was now modified for road use. Subsequently acquired by p.n.s., ltd. (cirencester, eng), steve stevenson (eng) in '71, tony mitchell (eng) in '72 and john lees (sheffield, eng) in '73. during the mid-70s the bodywork parted company with the rest of the car and was put into storage, where the great gt40 historian, ronnie spain, was able to authenticate its provenance; After which, it was purchased through shedevil racing of east sussex, to be used in the reincarnation of p/1042(1001). during its’ restoration, the archaeology revealed its’ 1960s paint schemes, and battle damage. The car was repainted in its’ sid taylor racing livery of 1967 and a dash-mounted plaque, signed by “sid taylor” contributes towards its’ historical provenance. there is an enormous history file, with numerous period photographs, race programmes, magazine articles and drivers’ autographs; All of which, has been examined and verified by ronnie spain. He also details how the gt40 carries its’ matching engine, period gearbox, parachute-material seats, irvin gq harnesses, magnesium uprights, girling cr/br calipers, original radiator/oil cooler, fispa fuel regulator and stewart warner pumps etc. Indeed, this gt40 is 100% period-correct, as when it would have left th. F.a.v. Factory in slough, and benefits from real period race history. Indeed, many notable marque specialists have declared the car to be “one of the most original-spec gt40s remaining today”. all the above is verified by documentary evidence; Which, together with its’ volumous history file, includes a current fia historic technical passport, uk mot test certificate, period homologation papers and valid uk title denoting year of manufacture “1966”. this is a real gt40 with period history and is ready for the road or race track. Indeed, in between 2017-19, it was campaigned at various classic events; Including the silverstone classic media day, chateau impney hill climb, bolsworth castle sprint, castle coombe autumn classic, and invited to the concours d’elegance at the le mans classic in 2018 and gt40 celebration at the spa 6 hours in 2019. interested parties can have their agent inspect the gt40 at an independent classic racing specialist in north dorset, united kingdom by prior arrangement.
