1978 Skoda 1203 Van Camper - Taz - Super Rare For Sale
Offered For Sale is my much loved and very rare 1978 Skoda 1203 Van - Camper Van.
A super rare vehicle being one of only two within the UK but fully UK registered and previously MOT’d until being dry stored prior to my purchase back in 2017.
This was bought in 2011 in Slovakia from a guy who used it to travel for his work across Europe, the interior has stickers from all of the countries he travelled through. He sold the van in 2011 and it was then driven to the UK where it was then registered by the only previous UK owner.
I had purchased it as a non-running project and have since completed works on the van replacing various parts to get the engine running and idling but further work is required to the running gear and without knowledge could extend past that listed below. On testing and under braking he pulls to the left. Running whilst driving is not smooth and revs cut out quickly despite fuel reaching the carburettor through a new electrical fuel pump. Clutch bite is good but both gear linkage and clutch master cylinder would benefit from investigation as selection is difficult and inconsistent.
Under side was inspected back in 2017 when it was placed upon a friends ramp, two small patches required to the front of both front inner arches, the rest appears solid and free from repair. It remains clean and dry without any underseal hiding any surprises. Earlier this summer all brake pipes, linkage and cables were greased and whilst replacing the exhaust the underside reassessed to ensure its dry storage had preserved it over the 2 years.
Bodywork itself is commensurate with age and usage. Small marks and dents, patina and general wear from previous service as a camper (best viewed to establish full condition although 60+ photos are available upon request). There is some rust as evident in the photos along some bodylines but little to no rot in the bodywork, panel are produced of thick quality steel, with good weight to all doors and rear hatches.
A rare example this is believed to have been converted from new into a camper with additional seating through the side opening single side door and two further benches in the rear accessed through the split rear doors. Seats then combine to convert the rear into a large double bed.
There is a unit across the van that contains a simple double ring cooker, small sink and a small integrated cool box. The unit also contains storage with sliding doors. Additional electrics have also be added to the van. All items associated to the camper element of this van remain untested.
The cabin of the van remains complete and in good condition with all elements working as they should. All electrical items including interior and exterior lights have been tested and work as does the electric fan. Original winter retractable radiator cover is intact and fully operational. Seats and door cards are all original but general wear to covers although original seats below appear intact. The covers remain in place as the pattern matches that of the rear upholstery.
The van comes with 4 x matching tyres as well as a spare the same size, slightly wider than those fitted which have deteriorated since being parked up. Tyres will need fitting and remain a good part used set.
All records of manufacturing within Czechoslovakia were destroyed with the countries dissolution into the Czech Republic and Slovakia on 1 January 1993. Because of the this a birth certificate was issued by the Skoda Club UK, this van / camper model was produced between 1973 and 1978 so it was issued with the latter despite beliefs that it is an earlier example.
As well as UK registration documents the van comes with it original registration documentations prior to being imported but no previous service history. Local maps from Slovakia and the Czech Republic are also present. All work completed in my ownership was by myself and my father.
Genuine interest only, my time outside of work is important me. Questions will be answers quickly as phone and internet access allows.
Difficult to value the van due to its rarity so its listed at £5000 but this is a guide only to attract genuine interest and offers are invited during the viewing of the van.
Funds must be received in full and cleared prior to the vehicle being released, bank transfer preferred due to values.
This is a private sale and as such is to be sold as seen without warrantee being implied or offered.
I do have access to a trailer and can offer a delivery service depending on distance with an additional cost agreed prior to any completion of sale in person.
Email or call, leave a message if unanswered.
Viewing is in South Leicester.
