1968 MGC Roadster Automatic For Sale

The car is mostly original. There can’t be many left that have not been restored and aren’t basket cases.

The shell is very good and has never been welded. I also have not found any holes, it was a California dry state car. There cant be many MGCs left you can say that about! It has not been rustproofed and hence has a lot of surface rust underneath. A lot of the original paint has come off or come off the primer. The car wants soda blasting and repainting completely. Bonnet is the desirable aluminum item.

The cars runs and drives quite well. I have removed the US smog equipment and that is with the car. It is currently insured and taxed. Oil pressure is good but engine is a bit smoky. It wasn’t smoking when I first bought the car but it has been in storage of almost three years so I believe it has stuck piston rings. The MGCs were prone to ring problems in any case. Rings are available from MGOC for about GBP 80 a full set.

Most electrical things work but there are a few gremlins as you would expect.

Mileage not verified and the speedometer is not working, (I am bring honest here!) I believe it to be a problem at gearbox end. Cable and clock are working. However given the general state of the mechanicals on the car I don’t think it has covered a lot of miles.

I was going to convert it to RHD and put a manual o/ drive gearbox in it. To this end I have collected a manual O/ D gearbox, reputedly rebuilt, clutch fork, NOS flywheel, RHD dash and pedals. These can be made available at extra cost.

Car has got minor parking damage front and back and wings bumpers etc. so these would want a bit of straightening. Front seats need new foam and covers. Back seats needs seams restitching.

There is no hood frame with it. It was supplied ex-works with the factory hard top.
The dash is the US spec 'Abingdon Pillow ' and is crumbling from the UV damage. I have seen someone doing repro ones or you could replace it with a metal dash. There is a RHD metal dash I could make available with the car.

The car has had the following new parts fitted:

1. Master cylinder and servo

2. Front brake discs, calipers and pads

3. Rear brake cylinders and shoes

4. All brake pipes and hoses

5. Steering rack, track rod ends and steering shaft

6. Water pump, thermostat, hoses and reconditioned radiator

7. Twin 12V battery conversion and key operated isolator

8. Kickdown cable, pan filter and transmission oil change

9. Reconditioned fuel pump, Viton tipped needles and floats

10. Fox stainless steel exhaust and mounts. This give it a nice throaty sound. Downpipe does not fit auto box (tx Moss!) and I have had to put in a coupler so I could angle it to clear gearbox.

11. Cap, leads and plugs

12. Drivers door window seals

13. Engine oil and filter

I have a set of new carpets and door cards which I will throw in with the car. Also some trim bits and pieces.

I have the import paperwork and the owners handbook, some bills for the items I have bought for it but not much else. There is a heritage certificate and also a workshop manual.

Overseas buyers I will give any assistance with export arrangements etc, (at your cost of course). Delivery may be possible in a 50 mile radius at cost depending on other commitments.

The body had been stripped and stored outside and was in a very poor state. We mounted the body on our spit and sent it for blasting. On return the full ...
