1976 HILLMAN IMP CALEDONIAN - EXCELLENT & RARE MODEL! For Sale
THE Hillman Imp Caledonian was built at Linwood, Scotland as part of the final run of Imps. Only 2,000 were made of which less than 100 are known to still exist. They were all issued with a P plate and came with certain added extras such as French manufactured chrome door mirrors, special wheel trims, over riders, reversing light and stick on side stripes as opposed to drilling the body work for a chrome strip as previously done. Mine has all of the above (I am told that the mirrors and the wheel trims are particularly rare!) They were built over a period of one year only with production ending in March 1976. Mine is a March car and so, literally, one of the last ever Imps!
They also came with an interesting fabric on their seats which resembled some sort of old fashioned TV horizontal hold in glorious colour. Mine has had the interior professionally re-trimmed and the previous owner - an Imp fanatic - opted for Tartan which I think works exceptionally well on a Caledonian! She was also treated to a replacement engine, sourced and known to be good by the previous owner, an Imp club member.
She is rock solid and painted only recently in a delightful deep cherry red metallic. But not before all four wheel arches had been replaced inside and out as well as inner and outer sills. The box section under the cross member was also replaced. She really is one hell of an eye catching Imp and so much fun on the road. She has an MoT until the the middle of next month but I will be happy to have a fresh test put on her even though she no longer requires one.
She is not a new car, nor is she a three-year-old used car. She is a piece of antique motoring history and, as such will have quirks and maybe even the odd fault. Anyway, she is what she is. These old gems - in this case 43-years-old are sold as seen. Should you buy without viewing, then she is sold on the basis of the advertisement you have read the photos, or extra photos, you have seen as well with the assistance of any answers to questions you have received from me. Treat these classics with the respect they deserve and make sure they have love, time and effort lavished on them. Even the very best need permanent on going care. Practically all will have undergone a degree of restoration work or improvement at some stage. If it's a three-year-old car dating from the 1960s that you are after, then you are out of luck. Short of acquiring a Tardis that is.
Anyway, thanks for reading. I am here to answer any questions you may have and, remember, that I also provide a delivery service. Martin (07595-020282)
