Offered for sale is our 1931 Riley Alpine, clothed in most handsome Weymann half-panelled saloon coachwork, one of less than ten of its kind.
The Alpine’s underpinnings are impressive too; upon the narrow-track chassis with a 4? width and a 9?6? wheelbase are mounted Riley’s fabulous 14/6 (L-Type) engine and Silent-Third gearbox.
The sum of its parts, the Riley Alpine is a spacious and comfortable Saloon car with a smooth and sporting driving experience.
On a summer’s day passengers are benefitted by the large and sought-after sunshine roof, opening windscreen and vents mounted on each side of the scuttle.
VV 744 is a most charming example of an Alpine Saloon. A Northamptonshire car, its history can be traced back as far as 1957 whereupon a Hubert Edward Errington of Kettering had her in his possession. Next, the car was passed on to a blacksmith in Broughton, where she was laid up.
Rescue came from the renowned Alpine owner John Tew in June 1988. A meticulous and comprehensive restoration followed, with work undertaken by Ron Laws and likeminded marque experts. There are photos of the restoration, which was completed circa 2010, in the history file. There are also some old V5s, MOTs etc.
Unfortunately, John died not long after completion and in September 2014 we acquired the car from his estate via an intermediary. VV 744 has done 2201 trouble free miles since we have owned the car.
We believe that the Milometer was zeroed after restoration and the current reading is still only 8464 (this is liable to change as the car is still in regular use).
The car has proved to be very reliable, is still in very good order and open to any inspection at my home. It has been serviced regularly (last in February 2019) and it is currently MOT`d to February 2020. The Alpine is ready to be used and enjoyed. Some other points to note are that it has Rotax Head and sidelights with discreet indicators and a Stainless Steel Exhaust.
