1993 Classic 900 Ruby (I’m led to believe it means that she is one of the last 200 brought into the UK). Body coloured bumper covers and grey swirly 15” alloys on the oustide. Inside dark grey leather with 100% Zegna wool inserts in the seats, and on the door panels - Zegna usually made suits. Other leather accents include the steering wheel, gear knob and boot and door cappings.
I bought mine from Abbott Racing in 2011 with about half a dozen owners on the V5. I have put about 20,000 miles on to give a current 150K on the clock. As part of the purchase, she got stainless steel exhaust and bigger brakes upgrades from the Abbott collection, along with general fettling, new michelins all round, an alarm/immobiliser, a new headlining and a wooden steering wheel.
Annual servicing included new sparks, oil and filter or 3,000 miles. This was carried out by a saab master tech. A new clutch and slave cylinder went in in May 2016 at 145K. She will come with a full size spare wheel, outdoor Classic Additions car cover and winter tyres (on rims).
Last year, the gearbox broke at 149,500 miles, and she went back to Abbott for repair. While she was in, the engine was freshened up as Giles said they would “strip the engine, rebuild the head, new timing chain, guides and sprockets, hone the bore and detail the engine etc. It will be like a new engine once it’s done, there will be an element of running in when it’s done but they are so good out of the box we don’t tend to bother, just drive normally.” I also took the opportunity to sort the generally sound except for a couple of spots bodywork and put a couple of new wings on. She is essentially, mechanically a new car now with sound bodywork, new reflectors in the headlights, a current MOT and about 153K miles.
What needs to be fixed:
• The self-cancelling seems to have stopped working, but it was a new OEM one put on in 2011 (something simple I’m sure).
Hence the tag of £10K.
Why am I selling? My circumstances have changed and while I’m keeping my 9000 aero, old range rover and work car, the ruby’s unfortunately “surplus to requirements”. I’m fortunate in that while I don’t need the money and so I won’t let her go for buttons. Also, I do want the car to go to someone that will appreciate the classic 900. I’ve already placed my two other Saabs with new homes in this slimming down process.
