Previously cared-for bike with receipts and history to prove, off the road for a few years, bought by me and re-commisioned to return to safe, fully roadworthy condition.
Recent work includes: second-hand fuel tank from James Sherlock, new fuel lines, clips, filters; stripped & re-built petcocks; carburettors removed, stripped, ultrasonically cleaned & re-built using refurbishment kits; LH cylinder head replaced (Motorworks) and new valves fitted along with new head- and cam cover gaskets. Brake master cylinder and both front brake callipers stripped and re-built (Motorworks kit, pistons & seals). Front brake system fully re-built, new brake flexi hoses, bled, new hydraulic fluid. Rear brake adjusted. New accelerator, clutch & choke cables fitted. 2 new Continental tyres and inner tubes. All the above work carried out very professionally by The Motorcycle Man Ltd, my local classic bike experts.
In addition to the above, the bike was fully serviced (plugs, fluids, filters), tuned and checked over. It has a new gel battery from Motobins. Passed MoT with no advisories. It has classic insurance and free road tax. The bike starts on the button and runs like a sewing machine, in typical boxer fashion.
It has marks, scuffs and scrapes which are expected of a 1977 machine. I would say the paint is in good, original condition, with the odd stone chip on the fairing. The frame is solid. The previous owner had the exhausts replaced (Keihan stainless steel). The panniers are original but don't lock and would definitely benefit from some TLC. The 'new' tank requires painting, but I have held back from this as a new owner may want to change the bike's colour. The bars are pitted and should be replaced. The switchgear all works but the light switch has lost its Germanic 'click'. The clock is present but is only accurate twice a day. The ammeter is non-standard. It has (working) air horns which aren't original. I'm annoyed with myself as the "R100S" badge fell off the seat and I put it somewhere safe...replacements available but I'm hopeful of it surfacing before the sale goes through.
This wonderful BMW cafe racer has been lovingly converted to create a iconic cafe racer example of this BMW classic. With its Silver and Black livery it has spent all its life in the Southern Hemisphere.....
