1973 Porsche 911S to S/T Spec with HTP Papers SOLD

The 911 S/ T model was conceived to take advantage of the revised Group 4 Road Rally Regulations introduced in 1970. A regulation revision allowed for a widened track enabling Porsche to fit considerably wider wheels and tyres, greatly benefitting road holding and handling.

Instead of offering complete racing cars, Porsche generally sold conversion kits for customers to convert road cars. Hence a customer would order a new 911S model and then commission the S/ T conversion from the Porsche Competition Department.

In competition the S/ T was an instant success, the very first S/ T winning the Monte Carlo Rally on its rallying debut in January 1970. Success continued with Porsche winning the International Rally Championship that year. Great things were to follow, the S/ T being the progenitor of the legendary RSR. Only 22 or 23 original factory converted S/ T’s are thought to exist and each is different as a customer was able to choose a wide range of specifications. Original examples rarely come to the market, they are highly sought after and inevitably expensive meaning, ironically, that few are now used for the purpose for which they were conceived.

This fantastic S/ T Project was initially the brainchild of a well-known historic driver and Porsche aficionado. He wanted to create an exacting 911 S/ T evocation to replicate his original factory S/ T that one could use to its fullest capabilities in historic competition thus enjoying more of the legendary S/ T attributes than might risk exploring in an original example.
In this case, a 1973 911 2. 4S built for the German home market was chosen for an authentic S/ T conversion as would have been carried out by the Porsche Competition Dept in period. The car was dispatched to Auto Knoll, acknowledged Porsche specialists for this work to begin. Invoices on file detail the work completed and indicate the attention to detail ensuring each aspect of the car was S/ T correct.

The original matching numbers 2. 4S drivetrain was removed and 3. 0 litre Porsche unit was chosen from the highly regarded engine builder Supertec Performance. The specification is fully documented with an output of c. 315 bhp on the dyno.

The original owner who commissioned the project sold the S/ T to a UK based collector and historic racer five years ago. Following purchase, the car was dispatched to the highly respected Porsche specialist, Andy Prill, and a full restoration to FIA Appendix K Period G specification was completed over two years. Following a full strip down the car was reassembled using only the finest authentic componentry. Extensive invoicing on file and photographs fully detail the work completed, suffice it to say around £100, 000 was spent in the pursuit of perfection.

Further motoring projects mean that the S/ T is now available and ready for immediate use and enjoyment. In super and authentic order throughout it comes with the all-important recently reissued HTP Papers valid until 2028. This gives eligibility to a fantastic range of European historic events in which the Porsche would be extremely competitive.
It comes complete with an extensive file and spare set of wheels with road tyres. The original matching numbers drivetrain is available.
