The BMW R6 was sold in the German market in 1937, a year after the R5 model, in both models BMW launched a new generation of chassis structures that caused a stir at international level, BMW presented the machine as a total turn, the BMW's first 600 cc displacement engine associated with a 4-speed gearbox. Compared to the R5, the engine differs in many details. In total, only 1,850 units of the BMW R6 were produced.
The R5 and R6 models are equipped with an adjustable front suspension. The telescopic front fork has oil damping, which can be adjusted while driving. The continuous adjustment provides hydraulic amortization from hard to soft. A BMW innovation that placed it ahead of the rest of motorcycle manufacturers.
The reliable SV 600 cc engine produces 18 HP at 4500 rpm, this machine has a speed of 125 km / h. In the gearbox, the air filter is mounted in the center, which was adopted for all the following models of civil motorcycles of BMW boxer cylinders. The SV 600 cc boxer engine convinces with a smooth driving style.
The chassis is the special feature of the motorcycle: for the first time, the oval and conical steel tubes were welded together. The production of the motorcycle only lasted one year, the military continued preferring the frames made of pressed steel. Although the military favored model R12 and later R75; the R6 model, with its robust frame and reliable engine, was a technical feat. At that time, the press was full of praise and certified to BMW a technical advantage of at least five years compared to its competitors. Special for motorists who liked machines for the great route, without sports benefits but with the solidity of BMW.
Elegant silencers in the shape of a fish tail.
Due to the low production figures, the BMW R6 is now a collector's item, it is speculated that there are less than 100 units worldwide, ten of them in the United States.
In 1938, the R6 became the R61 model, model that incorporates a rear suspension.
