1972 Triumph Spitfire Mk4 1300, Genuine 33K Miles For Sale
Triumph Spitfire Mk4 1300 (1973 – L reg) in excellent, original condition. Genuine 33K miles since new. Has been dry stored for 33 years, since 1986.
Unfortunately after a few time wasters, this car is still seeking a new home. This is a genuine unmolested car which has been sitting in a garage doing nothing since 1986. If you are looking for a MK4 spitfire to nurture then please read on and contact me if you are interested.
First Registered in Feb 1973 and purchased by my father in Nov 1976 with approximately 11K miles on the clock. He is the 3rd owner, the 2nd owner of the car, was a trader, who was his respected brother-in-law, the director of the company, who sold it to him. So basically, two private owners since new.
The car was purchased as a weekend/run around car and was always garaged. It was last used in 1986 and has remained stationary in the garage until last year when it was decided to put it back on the road. The car has now done nearly 33K miles from new.
It has just had a light mechanical restoration, e.g. engine, brakes, clutch, fuel system and exhaust and now drives and stops as it should. The bodywork is in very good, rust free, original condition which is amazing considering it is 46 years old. It was wax oiled from new and I think this has certainly helped to preserve it.
Parts replaced / serviced include: Brake master cylinder – removed, cleaned, inspected and new seals fitted. Front brake callipers – removed, cleaned, inspected, new pistons, seals, pads & flexible hoses. Rear brakes – Slave cylinders removed, cleaned, inspected, new seals & shoes. Clutch master & slave cylinders – removed, cleaned, inspected & new seals. All hydraulic lines purged & refreshed with DOT 4 fluid. Engine serviced – Historic car 20W50 oil, oil & air filters, plugs, points, tappets adjusted, new antifreeze (had been stored drained since 1986). Carburettors - stripped, cleaned, new fuel needle valves, new rubber fuel lines, balanced and tuned. New Rear exhaust box and New tyres. All receipts for the above are available.
The car is now registered as a historic vehicle and is tax & MOT exempt. It was insured in May last year, for the first time since 1986 with a recommended £8500 replacement value by the insures. It has been taken out a few times in the summer months last year, however my father has since had a knee replacement and at 88 years young finds it difficult to get in/out of the car, hence the sale.
I am listing this for my father and will be the first contact point for anyone interested in viewing the car.
