GSK 817 was built on the 7th-8th April 1959 and left the factory in Colarado Red with Red upholstery. The Healey was sold new in New York, USA with wire wheels, overdrive, adjustable steering column, heater, laminated windscreen and miles per hour speedometer. The car is today still with its original engine and gearbox, and during the early 1990's was fitted with a racing overdrive unit. In 1991 the Healey was brought over to the UK, subject of a right hand drive steering conversion and restoration work and was registered too and owned by one of our existing customers for almost 20 years.
From 1991 to 2010 the Healey covered 20,000 - 25,000 miles and proved to be a completely reliable, superb long distance tourer. The owner was based in Clitheroe, Lancashire and participated in most Lancashire Automobile Club events, various Scottish rallies, the Norwich Union rally and photos in the history show the car at Silverstone, Donnington Race Circuit, on the Coast to Coast rally, in Langdale Valley in the Lakes and on the 2001 Highland Tour. During his ownership the car was well kept mechanically and treated to a new stainless steel exhaust system, front and rear springs, and maintenance to the braking system. Great confidence can be taken from the use this Healey has had, not only has it proven to be a first class long distance car, it drives like one and cruises perfectly with a lovely relaxed feel. In 2010 after 19 years the Healey was sold to an enthusiast in Sweden where it spent five years.
In 2015 GSK 817 came back to the UK presenting in beautiful condition. The bodywork is in exception condition with excellent straight panels and a lovely paint finish. The upholstery has a lovely aged, quality feel to it and the car comes with full weather equipment to include hood, tonneau and sidescreens. The engine bay is stunning and nicely painted so if preference is shows, the car will not look out of place. This really is a high quality example and should be driven and enjoyed, finding a better driving more relaxed 3000 MKI may not be easy. The engine pulls superbly, holds excellent oil pressure and offers impressive performance. The four speed gearbox changes up and down smoothly and the overdrive comes in and out correctly. With sharp brakes, direct steering, a lovely suspension ride, it's certainly one of the best driving MKI 3000's we've had.
