Vauxhall FC 101 VX4/90 For Sale (1965) edit C99194 | | | Introduced in October 1964 this was the top of the range sporting saloon in Vauxhalls's range, built in Luton, this was an early build in LHD form for export to France, used for publicity photo shoots and registered to the first of her two Paris owners in April 1965.
The FC Victor range was designed in Detroit by General Motors styling department and a similar body shell was used by Opel for thier Record range. This was the first European car to use curved window glass to increase cabin room and when introduced was priced at £927.
The VX4/90 was externally recognisable by the larger bright grille and contrasting colour flash down the flanks of the car. Internally the plusher Ambla synthetic leather trim and four dial dash containing all the monitoring instrements, together with a passenger grab handle gave the VX4/90 a very sporty feel. The chome VX4/90 badges on the rear pillars denotes this as a very early production car as shortly after production started they were repositioned on the rear wings.
This car (Veronica) has NEVER BEEN RESTORED and has completed only 56000KM (35000 miles) in the hands of her two Parisian owners and myself and has always been garaged.
I bought her in 2005 and brought her to Spain for her to spend her retirement in her garage overlooking the Med.
For her new life in Spain she had all service items renewed together brakes and brake hoses, the radiator was refurbished and all new hoses fitted in deference to the warmer climes in Spain. I have maintained her myself ever since. The interior is unmarked and and she even has that new Vauxhall smell and is totally origional.
Amazingly she has no rust corrosion as most of these cars ended up with, due to the Detroit designers having no knowledge of the salt used on European roads. Fortunatly her Paris owners had her brushed underneath with old engine oil (period rust proofing) and this has proved to be much better than underseal. Only 13449 were produced and very few have survived, After exaustive enquiries I believe Veronica to be the best and most origional VX4/90 to survive in the world today.
Mechanicaly she has no faults and is used regularly at least once a month to attend local Spanish classic car meets and drives realy well even in the Spanish mountains.
She has some small dings and dents in some of the rubbing strips after 40 years of fighting the Renaults, Peugeots and Citreons in the Paris traffic but I have not had the heart to change them as she is so origional and they are part of her history. Soon she will be 50 years old and I would like the next custodian to help try and conserve her for the next 50 years, even if they do not last that long.
She is sold complete with 4 months insurance and 16 months MOT (Control Technique) Also included are Haynes Manual, origional road tests by Autocar and Motor, Origional brochure, English handbook, A Classics Monthly magazine wih a six page article, also a full set of genuine Vauxhall Dealers repair manuals.
Due to the hard economic climate I would like to see her pass to an enthusiastic owner and she is priced accordingly
