1968 W108 280 S Manual For Sale edit C82062 | | | Mercedes 280S W108 4-door Saloon.
First Registered 1968, but only arrived in the UK in 2002, it has never been used in a UK winter and it is in excellent mechanical condition.
Location: Near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England.
Dark Metallic brown-black with oxblood leather interior
Manual Transmission, power steering, air Conditoning front and factory option rear (includes refrigerator compartment).
Engine: 2798cc, twin carburettor.
This car has quite a geographical history. It is understood this car was first registered in Saudi Arabia then shipped to Singapore in 1972 where I bought it in 1998. I used the vehicle as my daily driver to work. It was utterly reliable and a very popular car with everyone who encountered it. I shipped it with me to Hong Kong in 2000 and now back to the UK. Fatherhood forces sale - I am unable to give this lovely car the attention it deserves.
This is truly a rarity in the UK. It has never been driven in an English winter and so has avoided the ravages of salt. The frame appears to be in fantastic condition. Every time this vehicle on a hoist or over a pit the engineers have been amazed. Remember, this is a RHD, not your normal LHD import!
The following is a list of the main work I have had performed on this car since 2000:
All suspension and steering bushes, springs, joints replaced including main shocks, road springs and rear ride-height compensator.
Power Steering serviced with any suspect components and seals replaced.
Full top and bottom end engine overhaul, including timing chain, rings, bearings, seals etc etc. New clutch and bearings. Master & slave cylinder overhaul.
New brake callipers, disks and extensive replacement of brake lines and cables. Master cylinder overhaul.
New carpets and leather upholstery.
Stainless Steel exhaust.
As you should be able to see from the photos, this vehicle has the poise of a new car - no surprise given that everything that matters has been replaced in the suspension. The engine runs smoothly, it steers smoothly and precisely and the gearbox works a dream. Given the limited mileage since rebuild, the engine probably still needs final running in!
The vehicle does require detailing and cosmetic work to the remaining interior and a few other areas, like lower doors and other paintwork attention, but “s.o.b.” items like headlining is compete and original as far as I can tell.
