Vauxhall Carlton - 56,000 miles - TAX & MOT For Sale (1979) edit C120372 | | | For sale a rare 1979 Mk1 Vauxhall Carlton.
The Carlton is a 1979 model with the classic two litre CIH Opel engine and 3 speed automatic gearbox. The car is finished in a Bronze/Brown metallic colour with a Beige and Cream interior. The car has had three careful owners, the first owned it for 26 years! the second owner for three years and the rest of that time it has belonged to me. I believe the car has been stored for some of its thirty year life. The car is totally original and has not been altered in any way.
Whilst in my ownership I have carried out a full service, rebuilt both front calipers, replaced front brake hoses, bled the brakes, replaced front pads, replaced the water pump and carried out some minor welding on the sills. Plus a few other bits. Receipts for parts available.
The car drives well having only covered 56,000 miles since new. The engine and gearbox both operate very smoothly as does the prop and axle. The service book is dealer stamped up to about 48,000 and with my recent full service its pretty much 'FSH'. The interior is in very nice condition and looks like its hardly been used in its thirty year existence. The bodywork is generally pretty good, panels all look nice. There are some small dings and small ares of rust bubbles but for a 70's Vauxhall it is in remarkably good shape. The underside of the car is very solid, I don't believe it has ever been welded down there before I repaired the backs of the sills. Inside the boot is like a new car, with a spare wheel that looks like its never used and a boot mat that shows no wear. The car is MOT'd till July 2010 and taxed till March 2010.
So how rare are these cars? Well I haven't seen one in the flesh since the early nineties and that example was falling to bits even then. Having recently spoken to a few Vauxhall parts suppliers they say similar things like 'not seen one in years'. So the car is a rare Vauxhall but don't think that parts are hard to come by as a lot of parts are shared with other Vauxhalls (Cavaliers, Mantas, Senators, etc) and are available cheaply. So you can enjoy the exclusivity of a rare care without the worry of scarce parts and unnecessary expense.
So to sum up: A rare 70's Vauxhall with low mileage, that is 'on the road' with plenty of tax & test, had a recent full service (200 miles ago), drives nicely and reliably (never had any bother from it at all), is in original condition, priced fairly given its rarity and is something different from the crowd.
