Restored Mini Clubman Estate. For Sale (1977) edit C118454 | | | For Sale is our outstanding '77 Clubman Estate.
The car has just been meticulously restored from a very solid starting point. The shell was rust-proofed when new (as can be seen on the original bill of sale) and has survived extremely well. The front floorpans, step sills, outer sills, a-panels and front door skins all had some degree of corrosion, but all other panels were solid and rot-free. The most outstanding thing about the car was the total lack of dents or distortion in any of the panels... It was as straight as I've seen a mini, and no filler to be found.
From this excellent starting point, the car was totally stripped to a shell, and the floorpans, a-panels and sills replaced to a very high standard... All rotten metal cut out, and joints either spot-welded to original spec on the seams, or butt-welded in the case of the joint between old and new floorpan areas. The door skins were also replaced at this point, and the inside of the doors thoroughly waxoyled.
Once the metal work was completed, the car spent two solid weeks being smoothed and prepped for paint, including removing the rear window frames and grit-blasting them, all doors taken back to bare metal, and attention being paid to every last corner of the shell. It was then sprayed with several coats of rust-inhibiting zinc primer, before receiving it's colour coats in the original 'Antique Gold' (which I'm sure you will agree is a rather odd name for a colour which is actually a yellow-green!). The colour code mix for this colour is not a very close match for the original colour, so we had it mixed especially to match the original paint from the inside of a door (where it will never have seen the sunlight).
Every component was inspected and either replaced or refurbished as necessary during the rebuild. Below is a list of the brand new parts fitted (as far as I can remember off the top of my head.... I'm sure I'll have missed some!

Inside, we tried to leave as much original as possible, as most of the trim was immaculate, and nothing was missing at all. The only thing we replaced was the carpet, which is a high-quality moulded item with bound edges. The car really is fantastic inside and out, and you just don't get more stereotypically '70's' than this colour combination!
The car is almost totally original specification, but we decided to do a couple of subtle upgrades to bring the appearance up to date and make it a useable, reliable car....
After a lot of head scratching we settled on the 5x12" Superlight alloys which have been blasted and powder coated Black and fitted with new Yokohama A539 tyres. I hope you think they suit car as much as we do!
The front brakes have been upgraded to discs from the original drums.
We have upgraded to electronic ignition.
The engine is perfect, with no smoke, rattles or leaks, and it starts instantly from hot or cold. . The gearbox and clutch are equally faultless.
The car will come with 12 months MOT and 6 months tax.
I'd encourage viewing the car, as the photos do not do it justice. Just get in touch and pop by for a brew and a chat, and a good look at the car 'in the flesh'. The few people who have seen the car since completion have been blown away by it.... 'Better than new' has been mentioned a few times now!
