Mercedes Benx W124 250D TURBO diesel saloon RHD. For Sale (1987) edit C117575 | | | As seen various times on the Fifth Gear TV show, this is the 1987 Mercedes diesel saloon that has run trouble-free on straight veg oil for the last two years.
Car has just got a fresh 12 month MoT. It is a 5-speed manual 5-cylinder 250D but benefits from a bespoke Garrett turbo charger system added at some point during its life. Not much is known about the conversion but needless to say there were no RHD diesel W124 Mercs ever factory built.
Mileage reads 204,000 but it is utterly reliable. Oil pressure always at max, even on idle. It starts on the button regardless of weather. It pulls much better than the standard normally aspirated engine.
Includes towbar, Blaupunkt CD player and dateless personal number plates.
The Merc benefits from being of a more basic spec, which means there are no electric windows, air con or sunroof to malfunction/leak. Everything seems to work - even the central locking.
Black cloth interior in very good overall condition bar usual Merc light wear on driver's side bolster. Driver's seat has armrest. Black carpets are immaculate.
Bodywork in very good straight order - only one front arch scab (usual W124s place). I have polished the faded door and front wing so now the whole car gleams in red. No dents or scratches to speak of, but obviously it's not concours. This car has earned its keep but every owner appears to have maintained it correctly.

If you are looking for an appreciating classic or simply want a good solid commuter diesel, this Benz won't disappoint. I've had a few of these but this car really does drive beautifully. Plus it happily runs on veg oil (I have changed filters regularly).
For sale due to lack of space and the need for funds to pay for other projects.
