Bentley Mulsanne Turbo
1984. New Mot issued on Sept 15th 2009, so 12 months MOT. Taxed until the end of October 2009. Balmoral Green/Magnolia. Current mileage is 114, 400 but likely to increase as I am using the car.
The last owner of this car had it for around 17 years. It has a partial RR service history, up to around 92,000 miles. After this it was maintained locally and there are no records of recent history. I do have a whole bundle of MOT's to support the mileage.
The service history contains receipts for a new factory supplied gearbox,(91,000) and full air-conditioning system rebuild. The air-con still works and is ice cold, which is quite rare on these older cars. The hydraulic systems all seem in order, with the rear levelling nicely and all of the brakes working.
This is a superb looking car, that never fails to turn heads. These 'Spirit' shaped cars are absolute bargains at the moment, and will surely appreciate in value in years to come. The car has just undergone a light restoration to attend to both front wheelarches, which were showing the usual crumbly edges. This was all done professionally.
All of the bodywork is excellent. The underneath is solid. Interior is excellent although would benefit from a clean/feed. The veneer has lifted on one rear wooden door capping.
It is 25 years old, so don't expect perfection...and the price reflects this. The negative points are small but from what I can see.....
Cruise Control not working....needs a link rod (Same as Jaguar XJ6) Not sure why this was removed
Could do with a new oil pressure sender, the one to the guage, as it is a bit intermittent, and a well know weak spot. (Nothing wrong with the actual oil pressure, and good old Rolls Royce fit 2 back up warning systems and an engine cut-out in case of low oil pressure !
Carb could with adjusting as it is hesitant when cold, literally for 2 or 3 mins, so not sure if the auto-choke is doing what it should. It is a complicated carb on the Turbo...but I think the the same as an older BMW 320/520 and quite a few old Mercs.
Some or all of these may well get fixed, time depending before the end of the auction.
The previous owner had done 300 miles in the last 10 months......I've done that in the last 2 weeks...! it is a joy to drive. (except for the fuel bill)
I am selling due to a change of plan, this car was going to live in the abroad, but it appears I need something older.
I am looking to replace with an older Silver Shadow, or Bentley T1, T2, in similar condition. So will consider any deal/px.
I have more photos & any more information please ask.
If you are serious, I suggest you try and view the car. If you are insured, you are welcome to drive it. I am close to Jct 12 of the M1, 10 mins to the station with rail to London/Midlands. 15 mins to Luton airport.
I think this car is worth £6,000 of anyones hard earned cash....but all sensible offers/px considered.
I am open to offers based on £5500, which for a 'Blower Bentley' that is 'ready to go' is ridiculously good value.
Please no timewasters, idiots, tyre kickers, dreamers.
Especially no canvassers, to who I reserve the right to swear at, before putting the phone down...maybe having blown a whistle down it first. Nothing personal if you are a canvasser....just don't call me !
