Very straight classic V12 Pre-HE - REDUCED For Sale (1978) edit C114036 | | | Pre-HE XJ-S V12, red with black upholstery. 80,000 miles.
Probably the most beautiful model in the history of motoring.
Body:
very straight and solid, very little rust except for some bubbling on the boot lid and the sills that will require some welding sooner than later. The wheels are from a later XJ-S and take regular modern tyres. If you want, the original wheels are also available but they will need new, older-standard tyres. The headlights have also been replaced with newer XJ-S ones - now you can actually see where you are going at night. Again, the originals are also available.
Interior:
Very clean black leather with no damage, nearly new carpets, leather-covered steering wheel, rear seat belts (recent addition). All the gauges work except for the amperometre. The only main defect is sagged headlining (common with Jaguars of this era). For now it's held up with some pieces of balsa wood that do the trick, but it would benefit from the attention of an upholsterer. Both electric windows work although the motor on the passenger side is a bit weak.
Engine, transmission, etc:
Very smooth Pre-HE 5.3 V12 will take you to the maximum legal speed in no time. Oil pressure is perfect, no leaks and no smoke. Was recently serviced and retuned. New brake master cylinder. The automatic transmission is smooth with no hesitation. All the electrics work fine.
All in all a very useable luxury cruiser which will give you lots of joy and will make you look like James Bond... but which pays classic tax and insurance! The car is currently on ZV Irish plates.
